Encounter with God
Recently I met with a young woman who would fall into the lost sheep category. She is a delightful person who is searching for God. She is very smart and scientific in her study of the true God and religion. Our first conversation was about Truth and how we can know it in relation to God. We were in agreement on the truth that God exists but that’s as far as we got.
The second meeting continued our quest for Truth with a focus on Christ and the Bible. She believes that the truth about the Bible is that it is the Word of God which opened the door for my next suggestion. Because we had put an emphasis on evidence to find what it true and that she just opened the door to Scripture, I suggested that we go to the church for Adoration.
While in the church, I exposed the Eucharist and recited a few passages of the Gospel. The passages were John 6 (Jesus teaching about the Eucharist), Last Supper (Jesus saying “this is my body”), and Luke 8 (Jesus healing the woman with hemorrhaging who touched his garment). The hope was that she would have a personal experience based in Scripture that would be evidence that her Catholic faith is true. During the 20 minute session in the church, she was touched by the Lord and made a spontaneous prayer at the end which was sincere, powerful, and beautiful.
There are many stories to tell about people from our parish having profound experiences with the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration this past year. But this one stands out for our lost sheep crowd especially those who are desperate for an encounter with God. Adoration is really where I came to know that Christ is real and our religion is true. It’s near and dear to my heart, so I want to offer to any of our local readers the same encounter with Christ and His love that this woman had.
