Pet Peeves

One night at Youth Group last year, the ice breaker was about pet peeves. The leader asked everyone to write down a peeve but not to put our name on it. She collected all the sheets and read each peeve out loud. She then said we had to guess who wrote what pet peeve. My peeve was when people leave Mass early, so they easily guessed that was mine. One person simply wrote on his or her sheet that pet peeves was their pet peeve. Clever and simple. Let’s go with the spirit of that. Instead of writing a list of pet peeves here, I’ll use more positive language.

I really appreciate:

When people arrive at Mass on time and stay until the final blessing.

When people use the word “blessed” instead of “lucky”.

When people ask to meet with me or accept my invitation to meet.

When people genuflect to the Real Presence of Christ in the tabernacle.

When people say “Oh my gosh”.

When people dress up to come to church.

When Catholics refer to “God’s Grace” instead of “karma”.

When people humbly thank God or others.

When people speak honestly and directly. It is refreshing.
